What you have read relates to the shape of the stud collar .... whether it is round or conical. Any good tyre shop should be able to get you the correct collared stud for the wheel and the Polo
NOOB QUESTION ALERT!
I've got my eyes on a set of Japanese rims and the offset seems it would fit (16x7 +40 5x100) - correct me if i'm wrong...
however, i think i've read somewhere that a majority of Japanese rims have different bolts that won't fit on euro/polo vehicles... is this correct or was i drunk?
if they are different, are they interchangeable? enlighten me please.

Ryan, those should be fine...but I note you are getting 7" rims. I'd always ask the wheel shop to do a test fit for you, just to be on the safe side.
ive been thinking of getting some new rims myself, japanese, et+40 16x7.0 etc...i wonder if we are on to the same thing here...anyhow, those wheels will sit 9mm further outwards than the stock rims if my calculations are correct. Combine that with 205 tyres and i reckon they should fit just fine.
06 Polo GTI
FWIW, I have 17x7 rims, 38 offset, and they are fine...I did do the test fit, though
I think those vault Kaos chromies would look pretty sweet on the GTI
sorry dude, i was being incredibly sarcastic !
