I am still working at the approval step on my end.

I have found carbonblack to give fairly accurate and useable results of the variety of tyres for different sizes. It is also an Australian site so it should be better than tirerack.

Kumho's seem pretty cheap and fairly long lasting from what i have read around the forum.

For tyres in the $100-150 range, I'm going the Kuhmo 31's - Fairly good feedback over all. If you are going to spend up on the rims, I'd get something better, maybe the Marangoni's if you can source them.

Spoke to a several tyre dealers and decided on the Dunlop Sportmaxx tyres. Had Dunlop in the past and was pretty happy with it so will give it a go this time again for the wheel upgrade. Was thinking about the Toyo Proxes T1R's but they were a bit expensive and due to the soft compound, it won't last very long.

Hey Dave my GTI came with the Dunlop Sportmaxx and I gotta say they are so awesome. You know I hear so many peeps on this forum moan about traction issues and I gotta wonder what tyres they are using because with these tyres I do not have any real traction issues at all and thats with an almost fully hopped up car. Tyre quality is not something you should compromise on and with these tyres there is no compromise.
How much did they quote you out of interest?

Yeah I agree, I had dunlop tyres fitted to my previous vehicles once the factory tyres were worn and gotta say I was very happy with them. They were much more grippier both in the dry and wet, had less road noise, and somehow felt smoother etc.
Cost of the each tyre fitted and balanced varied greatly with each retailer and ranged from $235 up to $289 plus wheel alignment which also varied from $35 up to $85.
The new wheels and tyres will be getting fitted on Tuesday.

Don't get Sport Maxx tyres. They suck!!!!!!!!!!! There are so many better options out there. I'm currently running Yoko S Drives and so far they are far superior to the Sport Maxx that I had on previously.

Each to their own I guess but I where you drive has a lot to do with it. Here in Perth it stays dry 90% of the year and with that I find these sportmaxx incredible on a hot dry road. Corner traction I find outrageous and they're pretty confidence inspiring in the wet too. The only downside I found is that they wont last as long as other tyres and they can be a touch noisy on rough roads especially with the bilstein/H&R shock combo.
