just wondering what people think. Is there any difference between the mk4 and polo gti side mount intercooler setup. opinions please.

I think the polo already has a vent? Or maybe I'm thinking of my old car...?

I'd just get a bigger cooler

Yeah but flaps at $2500 its not high on my priority list and even if it were $1000 it still wouldnt. I was just wondering if this would allow a little more efficient cooling using the stock cooler. That way my limited resources can be focused else where.

IMHO the polo has a big enough opening for the size intercooler.... You would be better off saving the $$ and going a proper front mount

If you remove the foglight cover and foglight one night and go for a drive. I think you will find not much difference if any at all...

Im not saying it will work, just putting the idea out there, which i will consider.i said before im not getting a New IC thats near the bottome of my mod list. But price wise $15 compared to $1000+ isnt even in the same picture. And Kai i know what your saying but think of it this way. If you have one window open in your house at one end you generally dont get much draft or wind flow, if you then go to the other end of the house and open another window the increase in wind flow would be incredible at least 2 - 3 times. Now with the Intercooler yes plenty of wind is being blow into the ebay of course but if and i do say if you put a vent behind the IC then this would in threory create more flow and the wind will mostly be trying to escape through the hole. The fact that they put it on the TT also actually tells me that with further looking at it it could improve it slightly. But like i said its a new topic i will see what i can see when i get under and i will go from there.

You'd need the slotted vent as in the picture to stop the wheel throwing crud thru the hole onto the 'cooler.
But I'd agree it does seem worthwhile. Read somewhere that the air being pumped into the intercooler can be up to 250 degrees due to the compression and engine heat, and judging by the performance difference on a cold day, any help the 'cooler can get the better. I'm in the same boat shane, next money mods are suspension and track tyres, so I like cheap mods!

I'd be interested to see if you feel you get any benefit out of this mod, Shane. (My thoughts are ... minimal return for effort.)

    Cheers,
    Dave
