Intake Restrictions tested - Part 2

I know this is the second thread on this topic but as the other one is 6 pages long i thought i would start a new thread.

Last sunday davemack eddy golfer and I spent the whole day putting in parts and vag-coming the results. And i want to thank Guy Harding for lending me the Vag-com cable.

All the results were done on Eddy's car this was the first time any of us have used Vag-com so im sure we may have been able to get more out if we knew more. And any quater mile times were done o a private road of a friend of eddys. and 0-100 km/h runs on the entry to the highway. Both readings are taken at the MAF so its after its been through the straighteners etc.

Vag-com from what i can tell takes a reading roughly every 50-57 sec or what looks lik roughly 800rpm. This affects all of my results as 50 sec or 800rpm is a long time in a 0-100km/hr sprint so i couldnt really tell if the boost was coming on earlier or staying later and there could have been greater improvements in airflow and temp drop but what i have is good enough for me. I know Guy has another program he uses which reads much much more but i didnt have it.

    Now the results

I know the standard figures dont look so good only 2 g/sec increase but it drives better then it reads. And i know some will say that the mods arent worth doing but ask those who have done it what they think, i know from a non chipped point of view i can definitely say that it pulls stronger. If your in brisbane and you want a drive let me know and ill show you.

Now chipped you can see it increased air flow by 10g/sec or just over 6% increase. Which is a gain of roughly 8.8hp. And then the 11deg celcius drop in temp also increase performance. I was pretty happy with that.

Eddy aslo pulled a 14.2 using vagcom.

Anyway these are just some little results. Take them as you will but please dont start a war over them.

All you have to do is take a car for a drive who has these mods and im sure you will tell the difference. I know mine feels better.

    Hoyhoy.
People all I know is that my Little Blue BOY is humming with mumbo after Shaneth fitted the intake & the tip. There's quiet a bit of difference, I was very surprised & pleased.

Good stuff! Thanks guys for sharing the information. . . and it sounds like collecting it was a bit of fun, too.

One question: from the above, I don't understand how VAG-COM measures and times 1/4 miles?

i didnt know either until eddy and golfer told me while they were doing testing. I can only gather once you hit the start button on the computer it then uses the computers ecu to measure the 400m and also record speed. I wouldnt say i would stake my life on the time and i will be getting eddy to the drags asap but it was fun for them

Thanks for the test. it's quite interesting to note that the seat intake made it worst on a standard ECU?

like i said there is 50secs worth of data that we didnt get to see so who knows what it could have gotten up to there. I also can see the RPM that its at when it got there so it definitely didnt go backwards i was just showing the max output ofr each as i have to much datd to put up. And i know for a fact that it wouldnt have made it worseas everyone who has gotten one that i have spolen to has said how much better it is. and awestonvp test can also prove this.

    Thumbs up

Mine has the same as Eddy's ... except for the suspension and ... uh ... the off-road spacers (must remember to take those out when you're driving on the road, Eddy ... yeah ... right) and I whole-heartedly concur with both the increases in performance (especially top end) and the better turbo sound. Mine did a (vagcom) 14.8 with 3 on board. I'm happy.

Well guys I'm very happy to say that my new seat intake and forge TIP are in my opinion without doubt worth every penny! Big thanks to Shaneth for the install! He makes it look so easy...

So about the results. The car is more responsive right throughout the entire rev range. The power dosn't drop off past 5000rpm anymore. Infact it continues well into redline and the throttle response seems alot smoother as well. Next step is flash time....

    Cheers.

P.S. Shaneth still has one forge TIP left and is very well priced!
