    Who is that with?

My '96 Golf VR6 sets me back about $1,200 for comprehensive and I'm 28.

I know locations matters, but THAT much when you consider GTi vs VR6 and new vs old... wierd.

its becuase the vr6 is harder to find parts for and looking at the risk numbers in our quoting system (im an insurance broker) its also due to the safety rating.

Are saying that all VR6 drivers are lead footed hoons, hell bend on going out of this world the way we came in... naked and screaming. Because if you are... your probably right

Still the price difference is still quite amazing considering the relative cost of the cars. DOUBLE the price just seems a little excessive.

Even my Wifes 2.5L 4Cyl Auto Subaru Outback is round the $1,000 mark and that can't have a considered a bigger risk than a Polo GTi can it?

for me to insure my girlfriend in her soon to be new car (07/08 focus tdi) it is nearly $200 cheaper than it is for me to insure my VR6

Insurance rating systems are not always logical. they are rated on several things. I have attached the ratings for me if i was to insure the focus and the golf. as you can see the vr6 is only JUST (1-2 rating points lower) than the focus so the price for me is about the same, the big difference being the focus is worth 28K and my vr6 only 9k.

    In my case I have:

    House Insurance
    Home Contents Insurance
    Heath
    VR6 Full Comprehensive
    Subaru Full Comprehensive
    Subaru Green Slip

I didn't get the VR6 green slip since it was more than the Alliance one and didn't offer any extra discounts/benifits to the rest of my insurances (I checked alot, I even talked to the manager asking for extra discounts).

Seems Sydney sucks balls for insurance.

Sydney always have - when I lived there in the mid 80's it was the same thing. Costs around twice as much as anywhere else in this wide brown land.

I'm in Sydney, and my '06 Polo sets me back $970 (23 at the time, male, 60% NCB) with the NRMA. For some reason or another, the Polo is classed as a low insurance risk (perhaps the OEM Immobiliser, alarm etc push the theft rating down) - the NRMA were asking somewhere in the tune of $1500 for me to be a fully listed driver, comprehensive, on the 1998 Honda CR-V also in the family. I suspect it might be even less this time around.

I don't think the NRMA look very kindly on ANY modifications at all, though (which suits me just fine, but probably not a lot of people here).

Im in Sydney, and pay around $1280 with NRMA as a 23 year old with maximum no claim bonus. When I was living in Epping insurance was 20-30% cheaper!
