    Insurance and APR

Hi all. Just a simple question...does anyone have insurance with RACV and checked if they are ok with a chip upgrade? I

don't want to call and ask in case they don't like them...and they have a good customer care system that logs all your phone calls and queries. I guess I could pretend I hadn't bought a car yet and was just inquiring but keen to know if anyone has actually had them say it is ok (or costs extra to insure).

    Cheers...

call them from a friend's phone and change your name!
But i don't think they care too much whether you have called before about an enquiry...

I was with RACV and enquired about whether they would insure the car with an ecu upgrade and they said they wouldnt.

    From Customers feedback:

RACQ, NRMA, RACV seem to not be very mod friendly for under 25 Y.O. drivers. It always pays to shop around for insurance.

try AAMI, Shannons, Suncorp, Just Cars - there are probably heaps more who are mod friendly!

Considering it isn't actually a physically "Chip" but rather a software upgrade/'tune' I dont think they could object.

I always thought anything done to the car that takes the car outside manufacturers standard specifications is classed as a mod. Thats why some insurers wont touch it.
