    Idle engine RPM

Hi all, wondering at what RPM is everyone's engine idling on. Also, whether this can be changed using vagcom, and what is the range of valid speeds to idle on. Mine is currently idling at 700rpm, but the vibrations are a bit much when I have the air con on.

By the way, mine is running rough mainly due to the polyurethane engine mount insert. It's not too bad without the air con on, but stuck in traffic on a hot day, and the car shakes like crazy. Keeping the RPM at around 900 settles it down, but this requires gentle application of the throttle. Any way to computer control this?

I don't believe VAG COM can set that. Mine runs at 600-700 RPM with BP Ultimate (I always have air con on). I have the engine mount and don't experience it being rough.

    LOL!
Of course it will vibrate heaps with poly mounts. Der!

Try sitting in my car with a lumpy 16v and poly mounts, then you wouldn't complain!!!

If you're not happy, sell the car or take the mounts out.

couldn't have said it better myself!!

the whole point of the engine mounts is to stiffen up/lessen the engine movement and improve power delivery.

stiffer mounts = less engine movement = more vibration through the car (as the engine is now more 'fixed' to the chassis.

i find it funny that people complain about the extra vibration and 'rougher' running at idle from this mod....i thought it would have been obvious this was going to happen!

it would be the same as buying a set of coilovers and posting up here complaining that your car has "suddenly got bumpier, what's going?"

FYI, my car was very smooth before the inserts done... and now i have the inserts it is definitely rougher at idle (700rpm).....but who cares, it's not that bad.

go sit in a V8 with its cams done and then tell me what a rough idle feels like.

Haha, I agree that it makes it stiffer and its expected etc. so not really complaining, otherwise I would have taken them out. But I think its a valid question to find out if there is a way to make it better without having any compromises.
