Of course it makes a difference thats why I posted my findings.
If my big fat 100kg brother jumps in the car, I notice it when accelarating.
When he gets out of the car...I notice it when accelerating.
Given a spare wheel is only what say 15-20kg...pull it out..less weight...stupid thing to do...yes but my point is I noticed a difference.

no no i was referring to it NOT making a difference in quarter times (as per Neil's post) due to the difference in the pitch/yaw of the car caused by the parts being taken out. because you are taking out parts of the car, it is stuffing up the dynamics of the car and accellaration abilites are sacrified.

does this make sense to anyone??

adding weight to the front seats (people) in a car would not throw this balance out cos thats where people were designed to sit and the suspension set up can handle a weight increase in that spot. your dynamics however, aren't designed to cope with weight being taken out of those parts of the car (rear wheel, rear seats).

    god dammit i confusin' mahself.

Yeah, look I really don't know about the suspension side of it etc...but it felt lighter or more spritely..it may have just been my perception.
But it makes sense to me the heavier the car the slower so the lighter the quicker...given lets say hypotheticly the car dropped 400kg....surely she'd be quicker.
Still I cannot imagine a driver in the middle of a WRC kicking out his partner....."get out man..ya slowing me down!!"

Two of my friend's pulled out their spares and just plan on using that goo stuff if they get a flat.

You hook it up to the tyre and pump it up. It takes you 50km or something by plugging the hole.

    You say that.

But when i put my foot down in third and it starts spinning (not the polo obviously) the car slides out pretty bad. When there is a passenger. Its a totally different feeling to when your by youself. 2 completely different reactions with just the addition of a passenger.

I know your talking about cornering tho. And not sliding in a straight line. Im just adding.

Ive taken my spare out and rear seats out heaps of times. And raced the same cars that ive raced with everything in. You move alot faster with just the little bit of weight removed. I was even supprised with what happens.

Then again. I notice if my fuel is empty by the cars performance. Then i look at the gauge and realize its really low.

Weight makes a huge difference - ask Colin Chapman of Lotus .

I once removed the entire enterior except dash and drivers seat from my old Charade and the difference in acceleration and, even more so, handling and braking was quite astounding.
