Red face Huge shout out to gavin!

so a quick flick of the forum would hint at me having had some turbo problems over the last 18 months or so.

I initially took it to a VW "specialist" who told me it was the flex hose in my dump pipe. Got a custom 3" stainless one with a 200cel cat made (after them remaining adamant that it would fix the noise

    didn't fix it..

took it to a local, general sorta mechanic... He pulled down the turbo and found the exhaust housing was cracked ..

I sourced a wrecked turbo with 35,000km on it, and a forge wastegate actuator incase the actuator was at fault not the turbo.

Instructed the mechanic to only fit the younger turbo.

Got the car back two weeks later with the forge actuator on it, which I yelled about but they said it would be another huge job to pull the turbo back down again and swap it.

started the car and drove it, sounded like there was a tambourine under the hood, and didn't feel quite right.

asked if they had set the preload on the actuator correctly, and they swore it was set properly.

just had the timing belt done on Thursday @ European autotech, where they confirmed my suspicion that the actuator was loose.

I spoke to H100VW (Gav) about setting the actuator myself and he stepped me through all the steps to set and test the actuator

Just wanted to publically thank gavin for the time he spent offering me his help, the guy knows his stuff, and is an asset to our little community!

my car is driving better than ever (with a whole bunch of mods, I kind of ended up having by mistake) lol

So once and again, thank you so much Gav

So it was your actuator. You had good instincts Ben. Now with your fresh new timing belt you can give it a hiding! Hope the shocks got the rear end sorted.
times two re Gav .... I got my tune off him a couple of years ago and the support that comes with it is top notch and ongoing even from another state.

Another plus one for Gav - he spent a couple of hours out of his day combing over my car to find a locate a squeak, and then sourced parts for me. Legend!
