VW have to prove that the headunit caused the problem.

Which im sure its easyier for them to replace whats wrong then it is to prove that your headunit caused it. Which is most likly didnt.

Yes you are correct, any non-VW accessory can void certain parts of your Warranty, which they have to prove, which from experience can be a long and painfull process.

For instance if you change your head unit, and the stiching on your drivers seat comes undone then this would still be covered, however should your airbag fire off without hitting something, or your ECU gets fried, then VW would love to prove that your wiring job caused the fault.

Easiest solution is to buy a VW harness to aftermarket Head unit harness and use this, should a fault arise, no wires have been cut and you simpley put the factory head unti back in.

Run your cables without making holes and use factory earth points etc.. and there should be no trace of an after marlet system should there be a question over warranty.

But what if you aftermarket stereo system had so much bass it rattled the stiching loose

In all seriousness, Has anyone had any issues with warranty like this before? What happens if they refuse to fix something? It would be a pretty poor dealer to knock back a warranty claim after a headlight relay or something goes because of an aftermarket stereo, unless they can DIRECTLY attribute the failure to the stereo. In that case, there is a good chance that the stereo maker or the installer would be liable for the fault. Afterall, these are common use products in the retail space, they don't tend to burst into flames too often.

by all mean, im not splicing any wires, tyring to source a harness, else will find other way to hook aftermarket HU up. so anything happen, just pull it up, and put the factory one in. XD

This is my first VW, but experience i had with Subaru is they would find any way possible to get out of a warranty claim. I am not really sure why the dealer is like that, i did service work for a lot of big name companies in the IT arena, if a customer had a fault due to a problem they caused as far as my manager was concerned he didnt care, he got the money for replacing the part.

I guess they only thing they could ping you on is if you hacked into the ECU wiring to get your power or something like that.
