You could take the boot off as well .. that's got a fair bit of weight in it.

Also, remember the following things :

    * Only run with the minimum wheel nuts - do you really need 4 or 5, maybe you can get by with 2 ? And while on that track think of all the extra bolts, screws, etc used to hold the bumpers, etc on ... does the bumper need that many ?
    * Drive naked - there's a few kilo's in clothing
    * Do you really need the passenger seat ?
    * Alloy pedals weigh more than a piece of rubber on the pedals

I'm sure there are a lot more things you can remove to make it lighter

Meanwhile I'll persist with my "standard" weight GTI, I like that it has an interior

I think the better point is if you need to shave weight from the car to feel happy with the performance then the weight is probably not the issue.

Weight reduction is my area of expertise. Just ask Kai I would love to test it out on my own car but at the end of the day I have to compete in the road registered class and it is a daily driver so I will have to avoid doing that.

If anyone wants a hand with weight reduction just let me know more than happy to help out .

If you are after parts and you can organise a group buy of 3-5 people I can have carbon parts made.

    Rough Pricing: Fibreglass/CarbonFibre

    Bonnet: $670/$900
    Doors: $590/$810 (each door)
    Guards: $250/$350 (each guard)
    Hatch: $600/$850.

That is only rough pricing. If anyone is after interior parts let me know and we can work out pricing.

The Carbon Fibre parts can be supplied in Clear Coat, black gel coat or white Gel Coat, and as a note the Carbon is completely carbon not fibreglass with a carbon overlay like the majority of carbon components.

    Carbon bits

That is a lot cheaper than I thought

I imagine that there is still a bit of work to fit. With all of those bits it would equal some serious weight loss.

A friend in the UK is into type R civics and upgraded to the Japanese verson (lots of carbon, slightly more power) reckoned it made a significant difference in the driving experience

That seems very reasonable, would the finished product be fully compatable with the mounting, release mechanisms?

What sort of weightloss could be expected?
