How feasible is this turbo upgrade?

Found this ebay turbo upgrade kit.
eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d

Just wondering how feasible would fitment be for 9n3 Polo.

Apparently the standard gearbox can handle about 350hp.

Not necessarily going to buy one but could be a fun upgrade.
    Thoughts?

    It's an interesting question.

I don't know much about that particular turbo kit, a BT upgrade certainly is possible.

    A few things to think about in terms of cost on top of the turbo;
    - labor
    - exhaust manifold,
    - big injectors, fuel reg, maybe fuel pump, rods, etc, etc.
    - LSD (a good dose of power through a tuned Polo with a stock turbo would benefit from this)
    - custom tuning
    - FMIC (custom or Seat Sports)
    - Full exhaust

Then there is handling to get the power down

Can and has been done (see Polo UK for Atleast 2 BT builds).

If you are serious, we are behind you 100%. I'd suggest you talk to a local performance mechanic, Bug Racer, Jmac, Gav, Guy, etc. Probably better to ask tuners what their BT kits / Stage 3 offerings are.

    They also have this kit:
    GARRETT 1.8T FWD GT28RS TURBO KIT Golf/Jetta/GTI/A3/TT | eBay
plus others on their sit if you want to rebuild your internals.

Intercooler and LSD could always wait unless your going do track days.

I am currently running APR stage two. Apparently stage three allows for turbo upgrades.

Most people that would consider this kit are probably running chip and exhaust already.

Main costs would be injectors, fuel pump, stage three upgrade and labour.

Being a ball bearing turbo it should spool up faster. By turning wastegate down to where you want
you should produce lots of low down torque and a pretty flat power curve.

Do you think about $4000 would be enough to set up inluding kit?

    Stage 2 APR is a K04 turbo.

Having a chip and tuning for a BT setup are not the same thing, it would need to be retuned.

You might get the hardware cheap, but I don't think $4k would get much, you still have to get it to fit to the exhaust manifold, make it fit in a tight space, modify or mate the exhaust, use a bigger TIP, customise the air intake to get big flow, ditch or upgrade the MAF, blah, blah, blah...

You can get cheaper but ECS have a lot of the gear you would want, big injectors don't come cheap either.

If you don't do the exhaust and intercooler at the same time the tune will later need to be modified, to get the most from it, you could easily burn a grand in tuning.

Read dude, Plautos' build thread has some awesome info, photos, etc. I know jack compared to many of the guys on this forum and were lucky they've come here to show us some cool stuff. There are a few recent and upcoming turbo upgrades, hope to see more on them soon. Wondering where the DNA boosted Polo is at?

It will cost you over 2K posted, plus import duties, taxes etc.

Injectors, fuel pump, TIP, downpipe, tune, intercooler.

    my guess would be $6000

    Go the Disco Potato!

Seriously though, most discussions I've read about this turbo suggests that it needs a 2.0 litre engine as a minimum to spool decently for road use + you'd want to drop the compression to take advantage of the potential boost increase. Of course there is a stroker kit that takes care of both of these concerns... 1.8t 20v 2.0L Stroker Kit (06a)

Hey guys - doesn't really warrant a new thread so I'm going to revive this one. I've had a gander at a Hybrid K03 upgrade and was wondering what you guys thought - It's about $1500 minus shipping and there'd be a little import dutie on that too unless I can talk them in to saying it's worth $800 or something.

They've got a good rep over in the UK - thought it might be a good idea if like me the idea of a straight swap/direct replacement appeals to you. And I'm not looking at big numbers, maybe just a little more than I've got now

Looks good but It's actually still cheaper to go with a frankenturbo that includes manifold, MAF etc.
