Don't forget there are some Oz wheels that come in 8" that are the right offset. But these are also around $500 a wheel. That said there aren't too many better looking rims than Oz.
I'd also say that Tempe tyres has some very reasonably priced wheels and a very large selection as well. I think that's where I would get some rims.

I am now officially going fat rims (for a Polo). I have bought dished 17x7.5 ET+25 on the front and 17x8 ET+32 on the rear (see the 'what did you do to your polo today' thread for wheel pics). With my standard offset being +43 the offset calculator says I will have 24mm more width on either side. that's fat enough for me. I'm stretching my current 205's over them as well so that'll just top it off.

God dammit the car is gonna look good from behind. I can then proudly wear my down'n'out sticker.

Will stretching the tyres significantly decrease the life of my tyres/cause sidewall issues?

I'd hardly call 205 on a 7.5 or 8 rim a stretch. 205 tyres can go on anything up to a 8.5inch rim. 7 inches is the minimum recommended.

So no need to worry about it.

Just don't 'roll-off them' with excessive corner speed, Rhys. They'll look great.

well the 205's are on 7's now and the side wall has passed vertical. Anything beyond that is stretch IMO.

I have 205/40R17 on 8" wide rims and the stretch is real nice imo, safe as nails, plenty of fun twisties have been had with'em without a hitch, pics for reference:

cheers for the pics alex, i've been wanting to know what 8's look like on 205. that's a nice stretch, noticeable but not ridiculous.....NAIICE!

whats the offset of your wheels?

    +35 with 10mm spacers, so +25

note different tyres will stretch differently though! some may accentuate the stretch more than others . . . .

So how much spare room is there on the inside of the stock rim to play with before it scrubs the shocks? I think mine are ET43. So these wheels add 24mm and there's still enough room not to rub the shocks?
