    How dark are your windows?

Hi everyone. I'm a new Polo GTI owner Silver 2008 MY08, first registered 2010- I've been creeping on here for a while and finally signed up. I've got a few mods planned but i'm starting with the cheaper/cosmetic stuff to get the ball rolling. I'm getting my windows tinted this week. Whats the darkest you would recommend (I am aware of the 35%). What do you have yours at and have you ever had any problems with the police or insurance company?

    Cheers

Go darkest legal, that way you are guaranteed not to have problems with the police or insurance... Seems a no brainier to me...

20% matt (non-metallised/non-reflective). Probably wouldn't go that way again due to restricted vision (have to put windows down to reverse into garage at night). YMMV as it depends how good your night vision is & mine has deteriorated greatly in the last 5 years.

I've never had a problem with the police or insurance but police don't tend to pay much attention to my demographic & insurance hasn't been tested (no accidents, therefore no interaction with insurance).

    My previous car had 30% metalised/reflective film & it wasn't enough. One day I'll find a happy-medium.

I think if you have to ask others then your risk levels are probably pretty low, therefore stick with darkest legal but investigate the various shades & metalised/reflective/matt offerings.

Ended up with 20%. I've got 20/10 vision so night time isn't really a problem. Took it for a drive tonight and no problems. Thanks for your input guys. Love the way the car looks with darker windows during the day.

I have 20/10 vision too. Night vision isn't the same thing.

Not to worry. If you are <45 then I'm sure your night vision is fine too.

    What colour is the car?

Well under 45. Car is Silver. Would have loved a white one but they aren't easy to find!

Ive got 5% on the back and 12% on the sides...

But that happenes when you work with tinters. wouldn't ever recommend it, putting 20% all round soon

20 is good for keeping a fair bit of heat out and making it dark inside but in lowlight situations (rural driveways etc) it gets a bit hard to see when reversing.

Would I be correct in saying that the 9n3 Polo GTI comes with factory tinted windows? Therefore I assume the 20% is in addition to the tint already in the glass?

As an observation the tint seems to work quite well, getting plenty of use in Perth right now!! Being a white car probably helps too.
