Was the worst out of all they tested.

Does it smell fuelly when you start it cold and does it splutter when cold?

Change the temp sender. Its in the water outlet housing on the end of the block above the gearbox and has 4 wires going into it.

Depending on which one it is should be $20 - $40 and will cost you fuel if it is crap. Imparts should have one down there.

What were you getting before this thirsty episode. My 8v would have whooped it for economy and performance

it runs normally and performs normally, i dont know, there is no tell tail soot on the rear bumper to suggest rich running... maybe its the cold weather with more time on "choke" and the fact that i've been taking smaller trips lately

Does it have a cat in the exhaust?

I had a MK3 16V that had been modified and they hung the lambda probe onto the heatshield around the exhaust. It was in fresh air so the ECU assumed the car was constantly running weak.

I would have a look at the temp sender first and then check out the output from the lambda probe.
