Unfortunately, this is what I think.

I'd be preparing to put a clutch in it Scott.

A very good reason to take the odometer reading when putting your vehicle in to a workshop.

Always do it and usually in front of service guy to let him know I know.

Shame but looks like they cooked it.

GTiPilot, man what a PITA. Seems your Gti got a thogging. Any performance car is targeted!

Yes I took a picture of the ODO reading last time mine was in Hwy VW Springwood. Do it when the service advisor is with you.
I know that you cannot trust dealer staff or owners. I sprung the Company Manager and tech cruising in one of my previous cars, an Evo when they promised it would eclusively be in the workshop getting to the bottom of a gearbox rebuild problem. They also took out the drive line and balanced it. I happened to know the driveline specialist who did the work on my car and he admitted my car was in their workshop without my agreement.
My brother had a company roll his car drag racing it, while it he thought they were washing and detailing it.

I am sure others on here have their horror stories,
    Hope you sort it soon.
    Cheers Al

Clutch is completely gone, ordered an ECS Stage 1 Kit and hopefully will fix it all and we don't find any other problems!

I'll keep everyone updated and get se pics of how damaged it all is

OK, the ECS Clutch Kit arrived today so just need to put it in. How hard is this job to do? Everyone quotes in the $800-1,000 mark for the work. Does the engine need to be dropped to replace the clutch and flywheel? Does anyone have the relevant service manual section then can email me please? I've changed a clutch before just not sure how different/hard it will be on the VW.

Also, the throw out bearing that comes with the kit is 02A 141 165G, JMAC said to use a genuine one which I ordered but received a Sachs 02A 141 165M. Which one do I use, or do I need to get a VW one?

    Cheers,

    Scott.

If it's any help, I did a Mk3 Golf clutch with the help of 2 mates & we did it in 4 hours which included a major stoppage when we found out the drive shafts were held on with triple-square bolts. I'd never done a clutch in a FWD before but had done 20+ rear drivers & r&r'd 100+ automatics in rear drivers.

It wasn't what I'd describe as technically difficult but if I was doing it by myself I would have been reduced to tears several times.

It's nice to have moral suppport.

I can't believe this - took the car to Barramundi VW Dealership to have the couch kit put in. They said to allow 4-5 hours @ $149. They called me up and said it's ready to pick up so I caught the bus in and they said sorry, we over tightened the tie rods and they snapped when we took the car off the lift!

Said they'd fix it at their cost and give me a new Polo TSI to drive around. Thank you.

I saw the car while the subframe was off and asked if they can put in my Seat bushes as it was all there ready to go.

Now it's finally ready for the second time and they say they've spent 15 hours on the car!!!!!!

Can anyone please tell me how long the flywheel/pressure plate/clutch plate/throw out bearing should have taken by the book?

Also, with the subframe already off, how long does of take to push out the bushes and put the Seat ones in?

    Cheers,

    Scott

I can do the Superpro bushes in 30 minutes a side, pretty comfortably. The tool I have is a rip off of the VW one.

I wouldn't have though the clutch would take them more than 5 hours.

    Gavin

Changed Seat bushes for Superpro, Jimmy says the Seat ones are more time consuming to get in. Don't want any misinformation getting out there.
