Heat from the exhaust in the car.

Has anyone else noticed how much heat comes off the exhaust, or more specifically the muffler, into the car?

If you go for a drive and then feel the left had side boot floor it is quite hot. The only place I could see the heat coming from is the rear muffler.

I havent checked it out on a hot day but its possible that all the extra heat coming into the car would reduce the air-con's ability to cool the interior of the car down in summer.

The only solution to this that I can think of is to wrap the muffler in exhaust wrap.

Both my VAG vehicles have some kind of heat insulation between the exhaust and the body, is there any above the rear muffler on yours ?

Interesting. Hardly use my boot, so it's not something I've ever noticed. Will definitely check it out to see if mine is affected too.

I was transporting a wedding cake on Friday, was pretty scared when we opened the boot to remove the cake sections to find the boot floor was warm.

Luckily I'd been driving very slowly and carefully as not to disturb the cakes.

Don't put heat sensitive items in your boot, especially if you plan to drive hard.

e.g camera's or groceries. Good point has been raised, I hadn't given it any thought but now that you say it I have experienced it.
