If it helps, I've found this site, theres links in it with photos that guide and show you how to go removing the headunit without damage to the holding pins.

I removed and replaced my original deck 2 months ago. Used 2 very flimsy keys not 4 and had no problems. Did the right side first and then the left. Takes patience and time however eventually got it out with no markings on the original stereo or surrounds.
Bought the full conversion kit: a single head fascia with pocket, wiring loom & plug so original wires are not touched and an antenna adapter from Autoware302 for approx $40 with postage and received no problems after only 5 days of paying thru ebay.
Installed rear speakers at the same time and it sounds a lot better than the stock unit.

Thanks for the help guys, it seems like i'll have to get another 2 keys cos they're stuck in the top slots and it feels like something is gonna break if i pull too hard
I have some removal keys I can loan you.
I did the cheap way and just used two screw drivers to wedge the plastic fce off the unit then undo the clips holding the rest of the unit in place. Once out the plastic face just clips back on. Just needed to be careful not to scratch surrounding plastic.

here you go, cut these out from a plastic credit card, better idea than a screw driver.

woohoo my friend got it out for me
apparently the secret was pulling them both hard towards the middle, but alas still didn't find the problem to my stereo so the search continues
reviving a old thread, but...
Just bought a headunit, anyone here got spare keys to lend so I could take the head unit out?
Also in terms of wiring diagrams, how did people manage to install their headunits?
