    Guess that noise!

    As the Polo can be a noisy 'lil bugger, I thought I'd ask about my current noise and maybe form a place for people to enquire about their noises in the future.

    As its hard enough to understand whats happening, if you do post about a noise here, please try to include as much info as possible to help people understand and assist you.

    My noise:

    Where: Front left (passenger side) suspension
    When: Going over sharp bumps or off camber roads at slower speeds. seems to not be noticable or an issue when at speed.
    Noise: Its a rubbing noise that travels through the chassis.

    What I think it is: It sounds like the strut is not lubricated and rubbing or the top mount is rubbing.

    What Else I've done / know to test: If I turn the wheel, I don't get the noise, so its not just the topmount / bearing failing. If I wobble the car from side-to-side I can make it happen and can isolate it to the left side in or around the strut / strut top. At first i thought it might have been my new swaybar links, but I removed the droplinks and it moves freely without any noise. The droplinks are fairly new and its not a clunking noise, but a rubbing noise.

    Hoping its not the strut (KW V1's). If it is, can they be lubricated? Anything else around there I should be looking to lubricate? Assuming I can't just WD40 the strut to test...

    have you check your lower control arm rear bushings?
    OEM ones fail - get solid Cupra replacements.
    Both of ours were cracked - there was the weird squeeking, and the odd thunk for unknown reasons.

    Could be the spring, try jacking that corner up so you can swivel the spring around to a different heading and go for a squirt to see if it helps.

    Thanks Gigitt, I have those, thats not the location of the noise, its around the strut. Its not a clunk, but a rubbing noise. Car handles fine (for now), but sounds lead to wear and components not working properly.

    I had thought it might be the springs binding, cut up some tube to line the coils that touch, but does not appear to be related to the coil. I can shake the car to make it happen and appears to be related to the shock / top mount, but hard to say which one without pulling it out.

    If you can get your hands on another Strut/coil etc? Try putting them in and see if that does the trick...

    TL/DR (Will when I have the chance ) I tried to start a thread like this a while back and it didn't take.. I really hope this one can get stickied or something. It will save a lot of us pulling our hair out trying to find the sources of all our rattles

    For me the glove box has been the root of all evil.

    First rattles started from the notepad clips on the inside of the door. Fix - ripped the F**kers out when I eventually figured it out.
    Then the opening/closing dampered cog wheel. Fix - lever off the panel on the passenger side of the dash and push the loose cog back in place.
    Then the pen holder clips. Fix - Also gone now
    Then the spring loaded rubber door dampers. Fix - tighten with hex key.

    Seems to be good now even with the new engine mounts which have now settled right down in regards to shaking the car to bits.
    I do get some buzzing from the tray in the top of the dash only because its been in and out a few times now so will chock that with something soon.

    Not a creak, more of a rub (deeper tone) when going over uneven surfaces concrete roads, crap roads, etc).
    I'll have to take it to someone to give it a once over as i'm a little stumped with this one.
