    Six year warranty?

Is this an official VW warranty which allows you to maintain it the way you want to maintain it (within VW specs), and extends the warranty to any dealer within six years?

Or is it the one where the dealer will extend your warranty on the basis that all services are performed by the dealer, and that after 3 years oil changes must be performed every 7500km by the dealer?

If the first one, thats not a bad deal as those extended warranties are worth about $1500 I think. In the second instance, it is just a way for the dealer to ensure they get your servicing business and is not worth a cent IMO. If it is, ask them how much they can do the deal without that warranty and see what price they offer you!

It's the second one. So the normal three year warranty and then an extra three years if the car is serviced at the dealer.

How much does VW charge for a regular service at the dealer, out of curiosity?

Expect $360-$380 for 15000km service. Don't know about others, but I think 30000km goes for over $600.

A simple oil change wont be much less than $300 either I imagine, as that is mainly what your 15000km is. The problem with the second situation is that once the dealer knows you are 'stuck' with them, they probably wont be afraid to charge you a little extra for your services knowing you don't have much choice.

At the same time, if you are the type of person that wants to have those dealer stickers on the papers, then there is no harm in having it and you may give it some value, especially with some of the gearbox problems these cars have been having!

Even without that warranty, your deal seems good. But if another dealer offered the same car without the warranty for a grand less, I would take it, put the $1k in the bank and put it towards an official extended warranty later.

At the moment (until 30 Sept) Austral VW in Brisbane is doing driveaway prices on all Polo's. Not sure if all VW dealers are doing this

So you can have a non-mettalic GTI for $26990 driveaway......

    Not from Austral...

They'll add a few grand for no reason. In driveaway deals they were over $2000 worse than Highway Auto when I bought mine. And really pushy.
