my fronts are 17x7.5 with a +25 offset. they were scoring the brakes so i put on some 5mm spacers up there to sort out that issue (now a +20 offset). my rears are 17x8's with a +32 offset, the right wheel was scraping up on the inside on the plastic cover that covers the fuel tank, so i put some 10mm spacers back there to sort out that issue (now a +22 offset).
i tried the 8's on the front with the +32 offset and they wacked into the struts well before even getting to the hub.
i don't have a photo of my car with the rear spacers on, but the top edge of rim is dead on in-line with the guard. so the bottom edge (with increased camber from lowering) sits well out from the guard. looks very phat when driving behind in.
by the way, my tyres are 205/40 R17 all round, so nicely stretched on the rear.
i have no scrubbing issues, and also what Whubbsie said, the guards are rolled from factory which allows for plenty of wheel to tuck up inside if need be.
