Got Board so did a little Mod!!

    Hey all,

As tittled, I got a little bored yesterday so I did a little mod, that took about 15mis to do..

My other car is off the road for a while, so I ripped the K&N off to see if it would fit my GTI, and sure enough it did with ease..

I disconnected the BOV, (1min Job) attached the K&N on and a smaller filter for the other breather, and WALLA all done.

It gives an awsome flutter on decell and load suction on throttle, as well as the spooling noise is more defined..

Not a bad little mod simple as and inexpensive..

Here are 2 pix - Second pic is off the breather filter tucked under the cover ..

If you block the vacum line. And the 2 BOV lines. Its a hell of alot louder.

Then if you wanna make it even louder. Take the airfilter off

Ive had mine like this for agessssss. (with air filter)

    Hey KIA,

Yep that's exactly what I have done.. Disconnected the Vacc Lin off the BOV, and run the filter.
The flutter is much more obviouse and and by running the K&N, makes it sound alot louder.
Prob with The GIT's is there is heaps of sound proffing in the bay which drowns the sound by alot.

yeah....not too sure if you've realised.....but his name is KAI......not KIA, cheap truck and car manufacturer.

i'm pretty sure it clearly says it.

as for the whole bov thing....i don't know enough about it to take sides on the matter, but for me i'm sticking with the dual port bov i have......unless my car decides to shut down like KAI's <----(note spelling) did.

the vac line on the bov is there for a reason... if u guys want "cooler dose" in vl's term, or flutter, then block the inlet of the bov, not just taking the vac line off which may cause boost leaking through the bov as the spring alone not enough to hold the psi.
skyline's ceramic turbo are fragile, there for die much easier than conventional steel blade. normal turbo can take a fair bit of punishment b4 wearing out center bearing. Plumback bov help throttle respond in most case, but the fluter noise sound nice so go figure...

Yeah that is exactly what I have done..

Just disconnect the Vac line that goes to the BOV,then Block it off (the vac line that is)

This stops the BOV from working allowing all the compressed air to pass back through the intake pipe and back out through the turbo causing the Flutter sound.

If you run a Pod filter or open filter, it will make the intake sound louder, as well as the Flutter and the whistle.

Very simple mod, and makes a small difference .

It does **** your turbo and I'd only recommend doing it if you have enough spare dosh to cover parts and labour for a new turbo (not cheap)

When the blades are spinning at 100,000+ RPM, the force back over the blades is rediculous and it won't take long before you get some play in the shaft.

Look at the dosing VL turbo guys, they all **** their turbos over time.

Hehehehe...But the sound of the turbine blades bouncing off the turbine housing sounds cool.
Seriously though, I'll jump on the bandwagon of guys advising against this. It is extremely bad for your turbo.
