    Goodyear Eagle F1 DS-D3 pics

    Hey -

Some shots of my new tyre set. First impressions are very positive; seem to soak up the bumps just a fraction more than the old set. Still getting rid of the silicon layer though last time I drove it, missus had taken the car for a long spin so should be just about gone now - so ready to test them a bit more on my next drive.

Car is a bit dirty, in particular a few spots on the rims. Thought I cleaned it up before the shots but ... oh well, it's all familiar territory I'm sure...

TY! Was only $780 or so for the full set incl. balancing and protection insurance.
This was under the 4 for 3 deal which ended yesterday. (I posted 2 times about that one ... )

I had a set of these in 195/55/15's on my previous car. I diddn't think much of them at the time, never living up to what i had read about them, a bit squishy and squealy (having switched from michelin pilots). However they seemed to tolerate hard driving well, not suddenly going soft and slippery after a few hard corners. Anyhow, im sure they will work better in the 45 profile the polo has, i think the tall soft sidewalls were their downfall in my case. Good value too, and should last a while.

Had a set of 215/45R17 on my sportivo. Have nothing but good things to say about them. They ware well and perform fantastically in the wet! Great choice.

I love these tyres - Have had them on the a3 briefly and they were great - Handle very well although a little noisy. Apparently they get better as the wear away because those big tread blocks can squirm when they're fresh.

Still have 2 of them from the fronts of my car in 205/55/16 with 95% tread if anyone wants to buy them off me.

It might very well be a case of the old ones being too worn out - i.e. the front left in particular... so it might be a function of going to a new set of tyres rather than these in particular, regardless, from my change over I've noted the following:

    1) Less thrashing in the car when driving over bumps. Still feel them, but the impacts are rounded off somewhat. Whilst it might sound like a small thing it is a pretty significant improvement for me.

    2) Better grip under full accelleration 1st and 2nd gear (APR). Much less tendency for the wheels to start spinning.

Too early to comment on anything else, i.e. haven't had the chance to load up any lateral Gs yet. Overall though it feels just that bit more planted.

and, as homer would say, "DOH!". i just bought myself a set of these in a 195/45R15 for $880! and that was after knocking them down from $960! didnt so much buy them for the performance side but more for how much of a nice looking tyre they are!
