    Is this a good deal?

    Hi Guys,

I'm in the process of buying White Polo GTI 2006 with 43000 KM for $ 16000.

The car is very good condition and by the quick look at it, it looks very new - a friend is selling the car and the owner is out the country, he says the guy just leaves it at the airport and is just a weekend run-around car, he says that he is upgrading to the new golf 6 GTI.

I also have a TDI Sportline(in South Africa) that I am selling, so I really enjoy the polo cars, was on the verge of getting the Toyota Corolla 1.8 Auto, but I just think I will not appreciate the japense quality and also the engine...

Have I made the right choice AND more importantly is 16000 a good deal or should I look else where?

By the way, I've already put down a 200 dollar deposit on the car, it is coming with a RWC, 4 new tires and new wipers.

    Pic of car...

    great .....

Any ideas on the servicing costs or an insurance to go with?

Also is it worth it to get the private VW extended warranty? Or if its possible to transfer an existing Factory extended warranty to a private buyer?

Price sounds reasonable for a low k car.

My insurance is ~$800/ yr (29 yo male, Gold Coast). Services will depend on who you get to do it. Independents will be cheaper (prob $350 ish minor service) and the Vic locals will be happy to recommend someone.

Extended warrantly would be a good idea but I'm not sure what will be covered on a 5 year old car? Check the fine print.

Edit: Forgot to add, Corolla is a good car but you'll have waaaay more fun in the polo

With all these new VIC Polo owners posting, it's just about time for another 9N3 cruise

That car looks very nice indeed. Not at all familiar with Aussie prices, but if it was in NZ, allowing for the conversion (NZ$21,081), that would be a pretty good buy, and I'd be encouraging my wife into it.
2007 VW Polo GTi, white, standard. First registered in Japan, imported to NZ 2010. Owned since Dec/10. Love at first drive.

thanks for the advice guys. I was very hesitant in buying a VW because of the expensive servicing and lack of support here for the brand.

I see a lot more support in South Africa where the cars are actually more expensive in comparative salary, although the servicing is about 100 bucks cheaper.

kaanage - i would love a drive.... been in Vic for 6 months now only been in around melbourne... would love to get out, do any of you guys surf?

Also do you guys recommend any roof rakes for boards? I've heard some good things about the Thule, but it looks like it might sit a bit high on the car?

I've got rhino racks and they look good. I usually have mountain bikes or kayaks on.

Price sounds very reasonable for a good car. Servicing from my experience is usually the ~$200 (non dealer).
