    GIAC - Need to retune after adding DP and FMIC?

    Hey guys,

    I have an 08 Polo with GIAC tune, and want to add a dump pipe and FMIC in the near future. I know there are APR Phase 1/2 tunes etc but was wondering if i needed to retune with the GIAC tune (to get the most out of the mods), or should it work itself out after a few drives?

    If you are keeping the stock Cat, no retune needed. I'm not sure there is one available from Giac, the apr one seems to allow the exhaust sensor to be bypassed rather than adding power (there is more power, but it seems to be facilitated by the hardware rather than tweaking the tune). FYI, the fmic may actually rob a bit of your boost if you get certain brands, but you keep your intake temps down.

    I was thinking of a high flow cat but if i need to retune in order to prevent fault codes i may keep the stock one on.

    Just wondering if anyone with a GIAC tune specifically, has done similar.

    FYI i plan to get the Forge FMIC/custom 2.5" DP in a few weeks ...

    custom mapping will allways be better.. so i do think it's better to remap it again to get the max out of it and to tune it correctly.
    it will run smoother

    I figured but i was trying to avoid it seeing as i dont think GIAC offer the free upgrades like APR does.

    In answer to your question it depends on the map that has been loaded on your car. Some of the GIAC tunes already take into account the use of a DP. Speak to your tuner if you have concerns. They are better equipped to answer your concerns.

    At the end of the day, in Australia the GIAC powered Polo GTIs have proven to be some of the most powerful.

    Once you have paid for a GIAC map. It is not GIACs policy to charge any extra to change to a different map unless you are doing a big turbo upgrade or something to that effect. As with most tuning companies it is up to the installer as to whether they charge an installation fee. Again speak to your local dealer who does the work. If you have a good relationship with them then they generally will look after you as much as they can.

    It would be fantastic if custom mapping were a reality in Australia. Unfortunately so far opportunities to have this done are few and far between. Hopefully soon.

    In regards to the aftermarket cat. Originating from California, USA. GIAC generally do not take the environmentally irresponsible path of messing with emissions controls. If you will be using a free flowing cat you can generally use an O2 Sensor spacer such as this one which will, in most instances solve the cat coverter efficiency codes.

    Will see how the car feels with the DP/HFC and then decided if i want the FMIC also. If i feel i need it retuned i will see if my local GIAC tuner can accomodate.
