It appears i have a gearbox oil leak. I've tightend the sump nut but where can i find the dipstick?
How do i find out the oil level?
So the engine oil doubles as the gearbox oil...?
Hoyhoy.
No it doesn't, Gav's talking about the gearbox filler hole, (which is a 17mm allen key) don't go & fill the engine until it runs out the top.

Does anyone know what oil goes in the gearbox? 75w-85? *NB I don't have an owners manual*
I've had a good experience with Redline MTL Gear Oil, and you'll find that it's recommended in several places on this forum.
The original factory oil eventually leads to gear grinding due to the poorly matched friction properties. VW had a recall to replace the synthetic oil with a mineral oil, but that didn't solve the problem.
Sorry, It's a manual 2007 Polo GTI 1.8T
