Last service I asked the dealer to check on the whine i hear while cruising in 4th grear (also can be heard in 3rd) and about the whine i hear in neutral (which goes away when the clutch is depressed). Anyway he told me it will take a day to get that done so i booked it in for another day (today). After the check they told me that there is definitely something out of the norm there and that they got the OK from VW Australia to take the gear box apart under warranty. The problem im having is that if i let them do it the car will be there for at least a few days (thats if they have the parts) and that they can't give me a replacement car for more than 2 days which to me is the ultimate in BFS. Any advice on what I should do about that issue. Any advice from people who have had gearbox issues with their Polo GTI on how to deal with VW Aus regarding that issue?
Misc info:
Car is stock March 2008 built and wasn't part of the gearbox oil recall and has 18,000km on the clock.

I wanna get it fixed asap but the problem is I can't really afford to rend a car for a week or two because of VWs **** ups. The car is basically new and its had that issue since day one. And ive mentioned it to them more than once and only this time they react. I see no reason why i have to incur the expense of renting a car at my own cost because VW have sold me a faulty new car.
I think that is crap too - I find that getting a car really depends on the dealer - some are pretty flexible in terms of giving you a car and some are VERY tight. Perhaps find a different dealer who is willing to give you a car? Also, I think if you have been back to VW for servicing, or are well known to buy a new car every 3 years off them, then they are more likely to look after you with a car, where as if you just go back for warranty they are less likely to look after you.
