    Gauage pod for polo

Anyone know any makers do them?

If not, can those newsouth performance steering wheel mount gauage pod fit to the polo?

Since I'm going to a 1DIN stereo i'm going to fit a 2 hole DIN sized mount from newsouth for the stock look.

Says on their site that the mount will snap right into the dash of a Mk4 Golf without using fasteners or adhesives, will it do the same on the Polo dash?

Are you purchasing the staggered three pod configuration or the flat three pod configuration? The staggered doesnt fit flush as the staggered sections physically stick out of the 'din', where as the flat ones will sit more flush.

The reason I say more is - they are still Japanese sized single dins, and the Euro single din size is about 2~3mm's larger each side compared to the Japanese din. Furthermore, you need to remake the mount as mounts that come on them wont hold the weight of the gauges in the Polo's dash and figure out how to fill in the sides.

Just several things to consider before you dive into the project.

I tried to achieve an OEM look so I opted for the NewSouth gauges. Finding suitable gauge pods was difficult, and the Newsouth steering case pods are only available for Golfs. I spoke to others with gauges mounted above their stereos, most said that while it was a clean fit visually, when driving, they were too far down to glance at, which makes that option dangerous and not worth doing IMO.

The best option then, is the dash cubby - it's recessed, and essentially serves no real purpose, while providing a perfect (and safe) place to mount gauges. The challenge is finding gauge holders that suit the car, aren't tacky, eg cheap moulds. I checked out the Audi TT Stuff website and got the idea to use carbon fibre autometer gauge holders from there:

I personally think that two gauges (instead of just one) provides a better balance and layout. See pics below of how this setup worked my Polo GTI:

Thanks mate - yes I appreciate the top cubby is the more ideal place to mount a boost gauge but as apready mentioned above it'll also make it very vulnerable to theft (that's not to say thieves can't still steal the gauges and take the radio with them if they really want to if I mount them in the 2DIN hole).

I've now bought a cheap cubby to fill the upper DIN space, to be replaced by boost/oil pressure gauges at a later stage - yes unfortunately they will be out of line of sight but I'm thinking about buying a lidded cubby to hide a GPS unit at yet another stage and mount it so that I can simply flip the lid open to reveal the GPS, besides the gauges only need a cursory glance)

What design are you chasing for? I have custom made several gauge pod designs in my previous car. I'm also currently making a single pod version for the Polo atm. It's currently located above the centre dash console - ie, similar to above picture however full enclosed and will be molded to look like a 2nd instrument cluster.

If you are interested, send me your ideas as I might have time to mock one up. Also there are several gauge companies that make gauges that will match up with the dash - ie, blue backlight, with red needle. Auto Gauge, and Auto Meter are just two companies that make them. However most are in 52mm configurations (2").

s1831559 - I've spotted you driving before near the round about at Australian Fair Shopping Centre. However, I have to agree with Sje88 that the colours dont seem to match. Furthermore, the gauges are far too obvious and being Defi's, it requires the Defi-Link, and that equals to big money The Defi's as pictured are 60mm gauges and are just too 'rice' as they just scream for attention (thus I remember your car so well when I passed you).
