try turn off the aircon, my aircon makes a droning noise
might be the same thing, not sure
it sounds like tyre noise but i've never heard it before. Its not a wheel bearing i know that cos the wheel doesnt shake while im driving. a wierd vavavavavava kinda noise and its driving me mental.

Golfman are the tyres directional. If so are they facing the right way. I know this sounds silly but happened to a friend when a mechanic rotated there tyres.

It would be quite unusual for a bearing to be making noise in a 2006 car. Any evidence of abuse? I'd recommend moving the wheels (say, front to back) as a test before you take it in.

Have you check the tyres properly to see if there is anything caught in it? like a large stone or nail or screw. In my experience sometimes that can cause those kinds of noices. check it very carefully to see if this is the case. It's happened to me before and it turn out to be a screw had imbedded it self in the tyre and was causing all that racket and in another case a friend of mine had managed to pick up a large stone that got caught the tread of the tyre and was making some simillar sounds.
