i am still reading, but not every day so sorry for the late comment.

    first things first.
the seat IC comes from the PD160 cupra D (wich is diesel indeed)
    but it doesn't mather.
i have seen ALOT of cupra intercoolers on the 1.8T's and allways seen good results from it.
my own polo is a good example of it also, if the IC was not good in any kind i would get another one.
but believe me when i say, it's one of the best IC you can get for 1.8T.
it still has the entry and exit on the left side as where the standard side mount intercooler was before.
so changing back to the stock unit would not give problems whatsoever.
and the fact that it's to "big" is just nonsens.
turbo still spools about as quickly as before, no major diffrence. specially after a remap.
never had problems with it myself and i have drivin in temperatures of 35-40C° in full sun. (belgium summers vcan get hot and nasty to )
also never had problems with heatsoak of any kind since i have it.
with the stock smic i would do 2 1/4mile runs and times where getting slower allready.

you must keep in mind that Seat sport itself made this IC.
wich is not the same as Seat.
Seat sport develops every Cupra model by itself.
and since the Ibiza and Polo are basicly the same car with also the same radiator,
i don't think you have to worry about that either.
specially because every cupra is made in spain.
so aswell as the IC and the car are tested in extreme conditions.
and i do think seat sport has some engineers more as let say... a tuning brand like Forge, APR or others. :p

Forge or APR do have good products, don't get me wrong here.
but i have seen logs of the flow wich the seat sport IC makes.
i have seen intake temps etc.
and they were verry stable and verry good.
with a 26C° outside temp, the intake temp on the car was under 40C° with realy hard driving surcumstances,
pushing the car to its limits.
thought the exact intake temp was 37 or 38C°. (don't remember correctly:s)

on my own car, with just pushing it hard and also occasionally normal driving the intake temp was 3 - 9C° more as the ouitside temp.
    measured with VACOM.

and i also did see them from the forge IC for the polo.
and i realy do hate to say it but it was not as good as you expect it to be...
the flow was worse than on a stock smic.
but it does elliminate heatsoak for the most part, wich the stock smic just don't do because it's to small.
K03 is a litlle turbo wich spools quickly and so creating alot of heat in a verry short time.
if the intercooler can't flow this you get a heat build up (heatsoak)
the only reason the forge one get rid of heatsoak is because it is bigger as the stock one and sits in the front of the car, getting all the air.
i'm sure if you put the stock one behind you bumper where it gets cooled enough it would be at least as good as the forge unit.
and then there's the flow, the air that passes true the IC.
the stock one does a good job in this but it's to small and sits in a verry bad place at the side, tucked away basicly.
therefor it creates heatsoak pretty quickly.
and it's the flow that is not so good on the Forge unit.
so they tested it further and put it on dyno.
and the car acually made a bit less power as it should have, but the power was pretty stable.
the stock one alows you to get the power it should have, but only for a short period of time, when you get heatsoak you loose alot of power.

as for fitting the seat sport ic.
like i said, Ibiza and polo have the same radiator also.
so the brackets wich are mounted on the radiator to fit the intercooler just fit directly on the the polo.
so you don't have to work something out to "hang" the intercooler on it's place.
a bit of useless plastic have to be removed on the inside of the bumper and in front of the radiator.
for the rest it's plug and play and the crashbar just stays in place also.

and i also mensioned NOT to get the piping from Seat?!
it's the piping that connect the IC to the Turbo and to the intake manifold.
Forge has a kit (ordernumber: FMSKINT) that is made to fit the Seat sport IC for the ibiza.
bacause the stock ones from seat are not good, one side is flattend and it has realy bad flow.
the best is just round pipes and silicone hoses where needed.
so i orded this kit and this also just fits the polo perfectly without problems.
also got the throtlle body hose from forge, so the "sound pipe" in the engine bay is removed also.. (realy useless and not good for flow)
but as i believe, right hand drive polo's don't have this "soundpipe".

(ps: sorry for the long answer, i do hope it helps a bit and you understand what i mean)

Must've been on the crack yesterday - I thought you meant where the cars were launched haha. All Seat cars are launched in Barcelona.

I didn't know the cupra's made it to south africa.

    that's brilliant information.

So where are we going to get all these intercoolers from?

    yeah, definitely seconded.

I called my local VW garage yesterday to see if the part number came up in their system but it doesn't so I assume anyone who is interested would have to import one from Seat in Europe. I got some rough figures (not including shipping) of around $400 at todays exchange rate, that's only for the intercooler and no piping, the forge piping is about $300 of the top of my head. All in all it's going to get to around $900 which is the same price as the Forge Intercooler kit with shipping - tough choices!

http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...mic-34781.html heres some additional details of what has been discussed prior.

Looking at what Forge supply, could we not source that locally? some mendrel bent piping (exhaust shop) and hosing (e.g. samco). Having a look at the PWR site, something like the skyline cooler may fit... looks very thick though.

If someone imports one of the seat intercoolers, I'll get it flow tested so we can put the data next to the flow data we have on the APR / Forge / Stock intercooler flow data for comparison.

First of all thanks Instigator for all the information. Absolute champion. I'll reread your post again when im home but im almost certain you have answered all the questions i had. I am also keen very keen on getting one of these intercoolers. I am looking for around 180-220kw at the wheels so im sure this will be suitable for my purposes.
