Polo shift in my opinion is alright, but to compare it to an MX5 - are your crazy??? - I'm talking the original MX5 (late 80's early 90's) - they had one of the best gear shifts ever - fullstop. The Polo doesnt come close to these - cant talk of later MX5s

That's because it's not for the GTI.
Not sure what box you guys are on about, the gti has an 02R which is VERY similar to the 02J and in fact shares a lot of the 02J parts. In fact the shift housing on the Polo Gti box is EXACTLY the same as the Golf (02J301231B) The difference with the box is the gearset casing is different with regards to mount holes, the front half of the box ( bellhousing etc ) is in fact the 02J which is identical to the Golf. Worked on both boxes.
To conclude 90% of the gearbox is 02J same as Golf.
Oh and almost forgot, wont let Gav off, Its a Myth that Scottish people are tight!!!!!

I was refering to the shifter being completely different.

it wont work guys if it is for in the engine bay, the design of the linkage or whatever it is is in opposite directions, I bought a HPA one ages ago with this idea in mind but hey if u want to go for it just ignore me

Yes, but he tried the HPA one, and it didn't work, not the new Forge one.
If you buy it from a site that manufactured it, and it says it is suited to the vehicle, then it dosn't fit, you are entitled to a refund.

No biggy. I can't see how this thread went on for 3 pages.

Thats fine mate, im merely making it clear that the gearboxes are in fact pretty much identical. That wasnt clear in the posting, gearboxes are totally different is what i read. Anyway all good. The shift mechanism is the same too, only the cable set up is different this maybe where the wheels have fell off.

and won't it be useless because the polo is not at his best in High RPM?
