Yes and no, they are using the same piping setup that all the MKIV GTi's and TT's used, which I would expect has been well tried and tested on the 1.8T over the years.
I think you'd find the extra piping would have a marginal impact on lag, in the order of maybe 200rpm max... which in a car that comes on boost well below 2000rpm I don't see as a problem.
Edit: Actually, even 200rpm more lag would be unlikely... that's the sort of lag increase you see on a WRX moving from zero piping on the top mount to the long piping required for a front mount.
Edit 2: I would also have a guess that the turbo to hot side of the intercooler piping on the stock intercooler would be comparable. The stock piping goes down from the turbo to next to the sump, across to the side of the motor, then all the way to the front of the engine bay to the bottom of the stock side mount. This kit would send that hot air slightly up over the MAF and intake pipe, to the front of the motor, and down to the intercooler. I would say the distances are very similar.
Edit 3: I stand corrected, as this shows the actual route of the intercooler piping. So yes, this kit is longer than other kits:
