Have had mine APR tuned for over 5 years now, still running the stock unit without any troubles, see no need to upgrade it
Hi,
I'm curious as to whether it is absolutely necessary to have tuned your polo prior to/at the same time as installing the forge 008 diverter valve. Reason I am asking is because although I plan on getting the ecu flashed soon, I've finally found myself with some free time and a forge 008 sitting on my desk. I was going to install it, but wouldn't be getting the tune done for a couple of weeks...I know I could just wait.
Does it require the higher boost to function properly? Or will the lightest spring work with the stock power?
I have searched for an answer, however, in every thread I've read the polo has been tuned... leading me to think they go hand in hand.
Any info would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Rhys

just take the vacuum line off the stock diverter valve and plug it onto your forge unit when you're idling. You should have sufficient vacuum to pull the piston up a bit or atleast be on the threshold of cracking. That'll tell you if the spring isn't a mutant. It should be fine to chuck in. The when driving if you get the cho cho cho cho flutter on throttle cut then the spring is proably a bit too stiff and it might be worth sourcing a lighter one.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I'll fit it up then and experiment with the springs. Looking forward to getting the tune done.
Currently sourcing a PD160 ait intake and FMIC... Cant wait to transform her.
As with any fiddling, it'd be wise to log the car pre and post all changes, particularly the PD160 just to make sure the cars not running lean or playing silly buggers. Again, ounce you've tuned it log it thereafter so you know it's all safe and sound. For a phase 1 tune, who knows what car it was initially based on and if any other mods were applicable/accounted for in the tune. Any tuner should be happy to assist in logging if you don't have the equipment yourself.
