Diverter works well. I don't know if i'm holding any more boost, but the unit works well. With my setup you can hear backing off the throttle from 2000rpm, the pod filter setup makes it quite audible.
The old (splitter) and the new (008 )
Started with the Yellow spring and 1 washer, seemed fine. Tried 3 washers, sound became quite whistly which I assume is the air struggling to move past the valve. I've backed off to 2 springs, which seems to be a compromise of both
From what I gather (reverse engineering), the role of the vacuum from the intake manifold plays a greater role than I had originally thought.
If you try to press the valve open, like the boost does, it takes a lot of effort. If you suck on the vacuum nipple (ha!) you can feel it open reasonably easily.
The sound of my Forge Splitter Valve and the 1 and 3 shim setups with the yellow spring in the 008 all sound a little different, this may sort of make some sense:
Splitter: coooooh
008 - 1 spring: cah
008 - 3 spring: tssew
make sense now?
All in all, its always nice to have a new toy. I'll reset my ECU sometime and go for a fun drive, see if I notice any difference in a harder driving environment. As the noise of each change is more distinct, I'm likely to go back to the stock airbox so I don't feel like cringing from the noise I now associate with an EVO more than WRX or Skyline. Not a massive difference, but just the mental association when I hear it. Its not THAT loud, but driving in suburbia, shifting at 2500 rpm, it does seem a little funny to have it 'tssew'ing at the passers by...
