Gavs, you said "there is only so much VTEC revving one can deal with before it gets frustrating".
What do you mean by that?
With your friend, fair enough regarding the torque, but remember it's how the torque is distributed. And for most Honda's, it's mainly in the upper rev range. Great for track! For the Polo GTI, it's all down low, some mid and then outta puff.
Personally, I really don't know what there is not to love about the styling of this car. Even the Mugen version too:

LOL worse Type R been made tho! if u think about it, have a look at EP3,EK9,FD2,DC5,DC2 any type R u can think of and compare with it LOL
even Top gear dislike this car LOL!
LOL just this kid being really cocky to me about his FN2R saying stuff pointing at me "this kid man thing his little polo can beat my civic type R" LOL!!
I mean that the thing was just gutless until right in the upper regions of the rev range and even then, uphill it still felt like it wasn't really gettin anywhere. Why should I have to drive an everyday performance car at that rev range all the time for it to be enjoyable? True, that the top en is good for a race track that has high speed corners, but you still need torque to pull pi of the slower speed stuff on road and track. You want to make a gap in traffic in the GTI, you drop back one gear and ride the torque (unless you're Troy who doesn't need to drop back a gear), in the civic, drop back 2 gears, then realise you needed to drop back another because you're still not in the power band.
Yes, VTEC is fun but having driven both an S2000 and the Civic type R in question, I couldn't live with it everyday, it would just annoy me like the old school turbo lag in my 4x4. Waiting......waiting......waiting..... There we go! Change gear ....waiting.....waiting.....Oooh there it is again...
Stage 2+ Intercooler Carbon Intake Downpipe Swaybar DV+ Remsa.
For a naturally aspirated small car there quick all round!
i wouldn't mind one, prefer a integra though!
Honeslty i wouldn't let it bother you,
GIAC | FORGE | D2 | TURBOSMART | K&N | XFORCE |
Having owned an Integra - Type S, I know exactly what you're referring to about an everyday performance car that needs to be revved to be enjoyed. But whilst that may be the case, I did enjoy the fuel economy. But then again, performance car, fuel economy? ha.
I will say, on the track, both cars would be an absolute joy. I know cause I've taken both cars - different driving styles, but the same grin on my face!
from 0 to 100, wonder whos gonna win haha
