the word "rice" in ricer, is used because this particular phenominon, supposedly originated from people who owned japanese cars, though any car can theoretically be "riced up".

correct me if im wrong guys,......thats what ive always thaught riceing was anyway.

Thats 'look at me', but not rice.

Taking off the grill is not RICE..... It may be 'look at me', but it is functional = NOT RICE
i think perhaps that taking off the front grille might be deemed as "rice", as cars with turbos this small, that are being intercooled by front mounts, probably will see no actual performance advantage by removing the grille anyway, right?

Wouldnt removing the grille be seen as just as effective as cutting a vent in the wheel arch behind the stock SMIC? No dyno-provable performance increase?

    Cheers

So is removing the grill rice or r-spec?

I will post a pic shortly..

My intercooler has no logos or writing on it just plain..

To be honest without the grill the intercooler is very prominant...especially on a black car like mine..

I think my situation is a little grey...

It would be a rice determination if the intention of the mod is just for the look rather than any functional benefit.. I admit its done to make the car look a little more aggressive.

But exposing my intercooler is not a show pony thing as the intercooler is functional, there is nothing fake about it? Its not a spoiler which will do nothing.. its fully functional.

For those with FMIC...do you expose it or cover it?

when/if I do mine, it'll be covered and more than likely sprayed black so no one would ever guess, even with a double look. Each to their own so do whatever you like the look off. Though in saying that, your car is far from a sleeper as it is

My Polo looks no different to any other Polo GTI...

Only has Exhaust outlet giving rise to any modification and no lower grill.. To give it a more aggressive look as well as possibly heloping out FMIC
