I have a question about the design of floating calliper brakes which from what I know are the standard design on many VW's, including our Polo and the Audi TT brakes I run up front.
I have some noise from my front brakes, which would appear to be from a pad having room to move around when no pressure is applied to the pedal. As the brakes appear to be in good condition, the rotors fine, new pads, new tension springs, have been refurbished, etc, I have wondered why this would be.
I recently read that the VR6's upgrading with this install use a carrier spacer. This helps correct a 6mm difference in the geometry of the carrier / rotor alignment. Bit of a difficult topic to research, not much out there from what I've read.
So I guess my question is, given the Floating calliper design may compensate a little for different rotor offsets, could using a spacer between the carrier and the hub / mounting point solve my issue?
I have no brake issues, but the movement of the pads when going over bad roads is something I'd like to resolve.

A brake seal refresh might fix the sound. Replacing all of the sealing rubbers in your calipers may allow the brake piston to retract a little more after application, thus allowing the pad to move a little further away from the disk..
