first problem encountered, bigger problem yet to come!!!

    hi all,
got something to share with u all. just got my new pogo 2 weeks ago. first real problem i got is the fog light stay on when it mean to be off. new light switch ordered, yet to be installed. other problems: car pulling to the left slightly, got aligment re-done today, but steering wheel isnt straight anymore? (dun vw aligment the car after it is assembled? and how can they made it worse). going back next week to get it done again. rattling noise in the boost, fixed today.
now the bigger problem. i got my car thru a vw dealer. i was very happy with the deal they offered, possible best in the country: white, no optional for $27k, drive away with free ipod adaptor and 30Gb ipod (at the time they were doing a sales on polo range: buy any polo to receive a free ipod advertised in newspaper).

i booked my car in to get the ipod adaptor installed today. in the avo when i pick up the car. the sales told me there wont be ipod, coz the deal i got was too good. i told her that wasnt what was promised. she said it was her managers decision, not hers, and im welcome to speak to her manager who were not there. she further said "oh, we'r giving u a free ipod adaptor which normally cost abt $380". (what kinda excuse is that? and what am i going to do with an adaptor without ipod?)

i wasnt unhappy, not abt not having the ipod, but their attitude and empty promises. it seen like their staffs are not communicating among themselves. i was asked 3 times today by 3 different ppl from sales department to pay for the adaptor. and adaptor mean to be installed last week but they stuffed up. and i was promised to hav a car to use today, but car wont there this morning. and was told by guy from service department that the car will be ready by noon, but it wasnt. well, here's my story. somehow, i never hav good experience with dealers in the past or present...
anyway, i will be seeking advise from department of fair trading tmr, and follow on the matter. wish me luck~

    Sorry to hear that mate.
Was the deal written on the invoice/contract?? If the ipod + adaptor were on the contract, then they have breeched their contract. I am sure there are some legal obligation on their part, and you should talk to the manager and VWaustralia about it. Be firm with them.

If all fails, you can go to ACCC for dispute.

My advice is to stop spraying here (for the time being); get a copy of the advertisement; have a chat to the Office of Fair Trading; and then set up an appointment with the dealer principal. Do NOT speak with anyone else in the dealership

I agree with Timbo, the manner in which you approach this issue is critical to resolving it. Much better to deal with it through the appropriate channels than to give a spray before you have taken all steps to resolve it.

Gather up all the relevant documentation and place it before the consumer affairs people, at the end of the day if the deal is as you described the dealer will have no choice but to roll over and comply.

I'd also comment that we should all be wary of making derogatory comments about people or organisations in our postings, we should be vey much aware of the laws of libel.

    Cheers

Talk to VW Australia - I'm sure they'd love to hear about a dealer shafting customers.

And ACCC - Threaten them first, maybe take the story to ACA. Tell them all about your sick little sister whos only wish was to have the Ipod and you can't afford to buy one after your new car.

I also wouldn't trust the dealership with your car - Take it to a different VW for the warranty work - They get paid for the labour so they should be more than happy to fix it for you.

The car should steer straight from the factory and the wheel should be in the dead centre when going straight. My brother's golf did a similar thing - It steered straight but only when the wheel was a little to the right. A quick trip to the dealer sorted it out very quickly.

i think if u didnt have it included on the contract you might have trouble. the ad from the paper probly has a disclaimer " *not available in conjunction with other offers" or some other statement. if thats the case then i dont like your chances if as u say u already got a good deal.
did they verbally promise it to you whilst u were negotiating or did they consider your negotiated price to be off the RRP and not the special offer?

MORAL of this story is to get anything offered to u written on the contract. cos then its binding.

And a steering wheel not pointing straight is just a sloppy wheel alignment job. it should be a pretty quick fix.
