    Fiesta XR4 vs Polo GTI

Wanting to know what would be better the 2l xr4 with 110kw na or the polo gti with 1.8t.

What handles better and has better aftermarket support?

Astro, as other threads that have been done on this is standard the xr4 is definetlty better in the corners and the polo is faster but once you have spent a bit of dosh on either the polo rips an xr4 apart trying to get more outa an xr4 is crazy being na where as handling on the polo is easy to fix and power is ALOT easier to get more of

Get the polo, having spent some time in both cars I'd definately go the Polo. The Fiesta has a clear upper hand in terms of handling but fails in the looks, tunability and comfort departments.

The polo has been modded to death on here so you will have PLENTY of support, unlike the fiesta where many owners are even hesitant to touch the air intake from what I've seen.

Getting more power out of the Polo GTI would be easier than getting more power out of the Fiesta XR4 due to the fact the Polo is turbocharged and there are stage-1 reflashes around for sub $1k from a variety of sources (APR, GIAC, etc).

Ford Europe do know how to tune a chassis though, and the Fiesta is known to be a fun car to drive in that regard. I've never driven a Polo GTI, so couldn't argue either way on handling.
    Nothing to see here...

by aftermarket support, do you mean tuning options? polo gti would kill the xr4 in that department.

as for customer support, that would come down to your local dealer, in either case.

man, i love the looks of the xr4- white with blue cobra stripes, high tail lights, small, boxy shape. i really like it.

but when you get inside and everything just looks so tacky and plastic, its a pretty easy decision to make to go the the polo.

There is no obvious answer. If you ask around here, probably a lot of support for the GTI. Ask on a Ford Forum, they will prefer the XR4.

Personally, I didn't find the XR4 to be anything special to test drive. I did however have my GF and the dealer rep in the car, so weight wasn't as good as going solo.

When I first test drove the Polo GTI, I was thrilled by the turbo power and didn't think twice about the XR4.

If you want power, a Chipped GTI has a good portion of grunt.

If you want handling, the XR4 is very well designed and handles better.

Whats your budget? For 25K you can get a GTI, chip it, lower it and put some sways / bracing bars on it, which would be a good overall result.

For the same dollars, you could get an XR4, and get about 20kw more than factory out of it. From the little I've read, the XR4 won't do much more than 20kw above the stock power without some serious work.

So in summary, do you like speed-stripes or turbos? Drive both and let us know what you think...

    well said.

to be completely unbiased I'd say just go and test drive both. We can only give opinions, but in the long run your the one paying the loan and driving it everyday

hey man, i think, just like with bolting on turbos to other cars that were designed to be n/a, it'd take alot of time and money? not to mention the cost of reliability issues?

people like this topic, got a lot of replies very quickly.

    The XR4's are quite limited.

4 cylinder NA's as a whole are just limited with what you can do. Its probably not too bad doing intake / ehaust and chip (if anyone has bothered making one), but like with my impreza RS (2.5L), I did a lot of enquiring and the best results I got was to sell it and get a WRX. Not the answer I wanted, but it was the truth.

For an NA car, you can spend $1500 on a good exhaust and get around 10kw.

In the Polo GTI, you spend a few bucks more and fly from 110kw to the 150kw vicinity. If you want much more power than that, have a look at Petrina's recent thread for what people think if you want big power. Lots of 2c in there (probably a few dollars worth by now )

Any Queenslanders want to convert this one with a demonstration?
