There is only one guy atm in NC who's got a MTM Polo GTI (ECU + catback) See it here and here.

I can try to record a sound clip if you want....but MTM is very expensive as you can see, it's 1094 € just for the cat-back !!

Please excuse my lack of knowledge regarding the exhaust sytem on our polo GTI's but isn't the stock exhaust on the GTI resonated so if you were just after a deaper raspier sound couldn't you just remove the resonator???

The resonator provides not only sound deadening but also character in the sound. By removing it your making the car sound louder but not necessarily better, your best bet is to replace it with a lighter less restrictive muffler, also the drone will be quite bad on the highway.

The Polo GTI exhaust is good for stock, but when power is increased, upgrading both the DP and rear muffler produces real benefits.

Tim - yours is a custom 3" dp and you're running 19 psi boost, ..think you should avoid generalising about how the mod works on all Polo GTIs.

Actually, it peaks at 18psi, and averages 16psi through the powerband, FWIW But that wasn't the point of my post at all.

My point is that we have posts revisiting issues. There's a very hand FAQ and DIY that PoloGTI spent quite a bit of time putting together, which centralises most of the information being sought, and to which new owners should be encouraged to refer.

Anyone knows whats the diameter of the standard exhaust?

As most of your guys think that the stock exhaust is pretty free flowing, do you guys thinks its ok to leave themiddle pipe stock and change the rear box for sound and dump pipe for power? Or it will yield significant power with the replacement mid pipe?

The stock diameter is 2 1/4 inches. The middle assembly on mine(07 model) is the Catalytic Converter, then its free flowing to the fear muffler and twin pipes...I have no middle muffler, but I think early model Polo GTI's do(Don't hold me to that!!).
