ESP + Tyre Pressure Warning Fault

    Hi all,

I've got an '06 GTI with an ESP and Tyre Pressure Warning fault following the replacement of a leaking ABS module. The original module was leaking air into the brake lines (I would lose half the pedal after one brake application post brake bleed) but did not have any faults - ABS, ESP and the Tyre Pressure Monitoring worked.

The replacement module was pulled out of another GTI and had the same part number as the original. The air leak has been solved with decent pedal feel but as mentioned I've got warning lights for the ESP and Tyre Pressure Monitoring. ABS functions, but the ESP and Tyre Pressure Monitoring does not.

I pulled the battery to reset the computer to no effect and have checked the fuses. As this fault appeared immediately after the module was replaced I assume that it has something to do with the fault. I couldn't see another instance of a failed ABS module online for the 9N3's - I doubt I have the only two failed modules... Other car make and models can generally swap their ABS modules as long as the part numbers are identical.

Has anyone had similar issues with an ABS module before or knows if I have missed a step? Any assistance would be appreciated

I am not too sure about the older ABS gear, but in the later stuff if the ABS unit sees a different VIN on the canbus the coding is wiped.

You will need to find someone with a scan tool to recode the module, and most likely run the basic settings to calibrate the unit.

Hasn't been scanned or there would be different questions about the cause of the fasil lights I reckon. SCan it and come back to us

Thanks for the replies. No codes came up when I scanned it using two different generic scan tools despite the warning lights on the dash. If I pull the ABS fuse I do get a fault code on the scanner… I’ll swing by a shop with a proper VW scan tool just in case.
I think you might be right MIG, and it will need to be recoded. I kept the old module so hopefully it’s just a quick copy and paste job
