    ESP on TDI ?

A few months ago somebody on here said the TDI Polo (MY09) will have ESP as an option.

I recommended a TDI to a friend and can't find any info on ESP on the TDI. Its a deal breaker and I would like an answer as I would like to keep her out of a Hyundai i30 that has ESP as an option. The GTI is unfortunately not an option as she needs 5 doors.

VW stealer salespeople have been unable to provide an answer. I'm surprised they even knew what a Polo was.......I do suspect the few I've been speaking to had to ask somebody else what a Polo was and if they sold it.

AFAIK the i30 won a few best small car awards. Why would you try to keep her out of it?

Flaps, they don't take everything into consideration... build quality, performance etc don't play much part compared to fuel consumption and safety. I think you'd have to get the results of all the tests that are relative to what you're after and make your own decision. Being a VW over a Hyundai isn't part of the awards criteria, but you sure know they will be better quality.

Also, the Polo TDi has won many awards as well, and it'll be well made and perform better than most other diesels in the class.

Sharkie: I thought the 2 safety packs was an option on all Polos... the same 2 that are standard on the GTI.

Mmmmm .... its got to do with the 1 being a VW and the other a Hyundai.

Those awards don't take into consideration brand name and product quality as much.

Don't get me wrong, as a consumer goods appliance a Hyundai is OK but not at VW quality.

We had a Getz for a while, broke down 3 times and had to be towed to Hyundai for warranty repairs ..... worst of all it was stock standard with absolutely no tampering at all.

Safety packs are an option but they exclude ESP. I checked again today.

Hyundai make a good air conditioning system and......well......thats about it.

take the 'sporty tiburon' for example. they bought that out to win some points in the auto market. ask yourself this, how many tiburons do you see on the road...they are as rare as a slu**y nun. reason being because they are POS's. same goes for the Santa Fe and Sonata....not too many around at all. oh wait, i've seen a few on the back of tow trucks.

as for the ESP, as much as it is a great feature on a sales base, who has EVER needed theirs and thought to themselves "thank god i have ESP". to tell you the truth, the first thing i do when i get in my car is turn it off....before putting my seatbelt on.

the reason its not in the TDi is cos it doesn't need it. the GTI however, it's the top of the line Polo so why not put it in.

ESP is insanely good. You don't notice what it does until you drive on diesel with it off and then turn it on. You can basically drive normally with it on and when it's off you sway side to side like an endless scandanavian flick.

I personally wish ESP and traction control were separate things, don't know if it's possible, but I'd like to be able to turn traction control off so I control the accelerator and ESP can do all the other stuff (whatever that may be).

I know hundai is not the best car in the world but by all mean their diesel i30 is quite a car. yup u get variable turbo vane (some thing similar to 911 turbo)from a korean car and not vw... also its 1.6 and does more power than the 1.9 polo... not the same build quality but vw is not the best in reliability either... thats just me...

    ahh so its brand snobbery?

the i30 is a LOT of car for the money. If i was after something rather family oriented and had $25k, i'd probably be first on my list.
