or I suppose my other question relating to this is would all the parts designed for another 1.8t 20valve head fit the BJX engine ok?
Ok guys just more out of interest at the moment then anything else but can someone tell me what other model engine head I could use with the Polo as there doesn't seem to be much out there for it.
i.e can I use an AGU cylinder head etc as there are more parts etc available. I have the feeling the answer to all this will be no but I still have to ask
First question to ask yourself is whether your main restriction is coming from the ports..
My educated guess would be no.
My advice is that you need to determine what sort of power output you want before you worry about swapping the head..

preen and guy thanks guys.
Preen at the moment I am just trying to figure costs etc on a big build and I figure if I do go ahead I would be better knowing what should be done to make the best gains etc and the best way of keeping costs down.
Eg if I go nuts and want ridiculous power that the standard internals cant handle I dont see the point of blowing an engine then building instead of just getting it done right the first time.
And from what I remember from non-vw days the head was always a good place to start to improve exhaust flow etc. So if I was doing that I figure why not mod the head, valves etc while I am at it to save having to do it again at a later stage.
Hope that all makes some sense
like I said this is all hypothetical at the moment just thought it would also give a few other guys on here ideas as well.
The 20v heads are reasonably good. Plus, when you've got a big turbo pumping the charge in.. The ports make less difference.
If you want to do a "big build", i'd get a CNC ported head. (I know that's kind of a sales ploy, but it's just advice) That way, everything will work and the ports will be the best they can be, regardless of engine No.
However, if you look around.. Guys are making pretty serious power on standard heads (ports wise).
There's never a good reason to cut corners. But at the same time, you don't want to go spending money when and where you don't have to.
