Don't know about the GTI, but on the TDI there's two mounts near the front edge that have plastic spigots with balls on the end that plug into rubber mounts on the underside of the cover. If you lift the edges of the cover gently you can get the idea of where they are, and just put your hand as close to each mount as possible, lift firmly and it will pop out. You might find the plastic housing for the mount comes away, but you can remove it from the block and slide it back into it's spot on the cover. There is a U shaped plastic tab at the rear that slides into a rubber shock mount, so don't twist the cover once you pop the two spigots out. Just work it left to right gently until it comes free.

    Hope this helps.

I have a 07 GTI and fitted my BOV a couple of weeks ago. The removal of the engine cover is exactly as MR WALKER has stated here. Doesn't need too much force. On the GTI there are 3 rubber "spigots" (when at front of car, front left, front right and rear right). The U mount is on the rear left side. pop out the other 3 first and then pull the cover gently towards the front of the car.

    Good luck,

    John
    Cheers,
