    ecu adding timing advance?

Our ECU will pull timing due to knock detection etc, but will it dynamically pull timing in response to high inlet air temps alone? Conversely if inlet air temps are very low, will the ECU dynamically add timing advance over what you run as part of your tune?

No it won't go further than it has been set in the map. Evidence being that when I do a Phase 2, the car feels pretty similar to a Phase 1 car and you can see there's no pull.

Then you add timing slowly, until there's evidence that the timing is being pulled out/

There are aftermarket ECUs that can teach themselves/self tune.

I was hoping you'd reply Gav. I was thinking about it in terms of water or water/meth injection. So even though the IAT sensor may see a temperature drop it can't start adding advance real time beyond where it is set in the tune. But what about its effect on fuelling?
In the case of post intercooler injection (where the main aim is to cool the inlet charge), the low inlet temperature would definitely be seen by the IAT sensor and would cause more fuel to be added (to keep things stoich) wouldn't it? Normally you pull fuel when injecting water/meth though, so in this case your combustion would be cool but richer than optimal yeah?.
If that's true then a post throttle body water/meth injection setup (for knock prevention) may work differently. Combustion chamber and plenum runner temps would be cooler but the IAT sensor would barely register a temp drop since it is mounted right up near the throttle body and even in the case of single nozzle setups, most likely prior to any evaporative cooling effect. More fuel therefore wouldn't be requested despite the denser charge so combustion would be leaner in relative terms to the post intercooler scenario.
Is all that possible or is it just a case that you are on open loop maps when you are hammering it, and the IAT sensors real time influence would be minimised at those times?

You need to make the distinction between water or water/meth. With the former, you really want it well before the AIT sensor or the ECU won't see it. Mine is too close and therefore, the AIT doesn't see any change, as far as I can tell from logging with VCDS.

The TB spacer, doesn't do it for me. I'd be tempted to go post turbo, not sure if I can be bothered though.

With WM obviously you are adding some fuel in the meth and can pull petrol as a result. This I fell could be dangerous without some failsafe interventions.

My Kit can cut the N75 but I wonder if the tank ran out and it was tuned for WM, would the boost cut be fast enough to save the motor as the lines ran dry??? I don't fancy finding out. Of course, there's a level sensor on my tank and the system can see it get intermittent sometime before it comes on solid. There's still a litre left at that time.

So if the IAT sensor does see cooler air, will it cause more fuel to be injected in real time?
