stupid question, guy - does this mean it's possible to raise the boost pressure safely after installing the FMIC to regain some power?

    Not stupid.

Increcing the boost (as per a chip / ECU flash) does this along with some other bits.

There is only so much power that can be made efficiently from the stock turbo, once you go beyond that you have issues with tubro lifespan and heat. Generally speaking, all the tunes get roughly the same boost from the tune.

That's where the tune comes in and raises timing, boost and fueling for you.

You can't do this for example (due to heat problems from running a turbo out of its efficiency range) - Chipped car running 20psi, throw an intercooler on and that figure drops to 16psi at the plennum. As a result, change the boost to 24psi, resulting in 20psi at the plennum.

thanks for the replies, folks. i am already running APR v2 + forge FMIC so i was wondering if the standard tune can be modified slightly to take into account the loss in boost pressure.

and, my apologies for hijacking the discussion thread.

The APR tunes are already designed to get max power vs reliability out of the turbo / engine.

You could certainly go an aftermarket tune, but then you'd be pushing the components harder to compensate for a FMIC design issue.

I'm in the same boat, have a vague idea to get a better cooler made up, but doubt it will happen...

Read my post immediately before yours, no it can't. Adding more boost isn't a solution to intercooler pressure drop.

***just an update, got a cal from the evolve technik team and told me the car produced an extra 30-40 kw/atw after the remap. so im pretty
happy with the result. will post up graph of the final dyno run once i get a copy. =]]

Hey Jesum, not a stupid question at all! - the problem is with your stage 1 tune, you are already running the correct boost level for the turbo size (efficiency & turbo life).

The problem with the "brand X" intercoolers is they are so bad, its like sticking a ping pong ball in your mouth & taping shut one nostril - suck or blow all you like, you still can't breathe.

The engineers we sent them to for testing thought they were a joke (honestly), they are so much worse than stock.
