    Drop my Pog

People, if I want to lower the gti on a budget, are H&R springs a good start? I'd be upgrading the shocks when finances permit. Coilovers would be great but not within budget, plus it would require getting the car certified here in nz.

Would i need to run shorter droplinks with the lower springs?

Anyone know of a good guide for doing the swap?

Sorry, no doubt all this has been discussed a million times before... How do you search on a term like H&R in the forum? Thanks.

I recently put H&R springs in my Polo that I bought off Gav on the standard shocks. I've never had a lowered car so didn't know what to expect. Others warned me about the ride being a bit bouncy and they weren't wrong, it's all personal preference though. Me personally I'd prefer a little less bounce and find the stiffness to be a lot better then standard but definitely isn't perfect where as others find the ride unacceptable.

Installation wise, rear was easy and didn't take long, front left was fine but as Gav warned me, the front right was a bastard. The shaft is to long to get out of the housing without having to move some stuff around, it's painful but in the end I got there.

    Hope that's of some help

I got bilstein shocks on eibach springs, so damn stiff. The springs on stock shocks aren't bad though

Thanks guys. I'll probably give the H&R springs a go then. From what I've read, the Eibach might be a bit more compliant, but maybe not quite as low as the H&R. I'm mainly doing short trips zipping round town in this thing, so a bit of extra firmness probably isn't going to be a big problem, and I would probably rather go the lower option. I'm also halfway towards moving from 205/45/16 to 50 profile (rears done), so that will probably help take the sting out.

Are the standard ARB drop links going to be ok?

    Cheers

My polo is dropped 35mm on coilovers with the standard sway bar links and its fine, might be an issue if you're going lower

I'll have some Koni FSD shocks and weitec springs for sale shortly of you're interested.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've elected to go with H&R springs as they offer the drop I'm looking for. Weitec only about 20mm? Cheers.

Last week I fitted H&R springs to my Polo. Standard shocks still in place. The ride quality is different - as to be expected.

    Looks much better!

Does look good My springs arrived today. Just waiting on the 12 point M14 male socket thingy before I attack it...I hope I got the right one, although doesn't really sound like you need it. Any last minute tips before I tackle this? Sounds like the right front is a real pig, so will probably start there and see how I go. Cheers.
