    Downpipe and cat

    Hey everyone.

There has been very little activity here for the past week or so.

Im seriously considering upgrading the GTI's exhaust. I cant really justify spending 2.5g's on one.

I would like a little bit more power and a little bit more noise.

Would it be better to get the APR cat back or the downpipe/cat.

I would really like the catback but im told it probably wont make much of a difference to power at all.

    Suggestions?

There's a few threads on this issue, as well as many perspectives on what works and what doesn't. In terms of the Polo GTI APR exhaust, you can't buy it stages, it's all or nothing.

Well 2.5g's is alot for stuff all. I wouldn't bother unless you were going to swap out the turbo. Thats the only time it makes sense to me because the turbo is a restrictive point. There has been good reports on the downpipe change out though.

Id get a custom dumppipe and your resinator (middle muffler) removed. Would be the cheapest and most effective option for you

Since you can't get much out of a whizz bang exhaust, I was thinking about getting a custom cat back setup made for me, purely for sound in mild steel. Nothing too loud and stock looking tips too. I've done this before on a Barina SRi for $300 and it was great.

Knowing me though, I'll never get around to it.

How is it possible for you to have less power then timbo if he ONLY did the dump pipe?

Did a nub install your exhaust with 1inch pipe?

Because it would appear that all the power gain comes from the dump pipe.Standard exhaust/cat is pretty good.
Side by side cars go about the same, but dyno shows his has more power.Go figure.

    are you quoting Nietzsche?

a larger dump pipe is a good mod relative to the stock system, but a full system with high flow cat and mufflers will provide better flow and performance gains - Marx, 1864
