Didnt think it would take this long to shift the GTI

I put my GTI up for sale on car sales about 2 weeks ago, did a little searching to get a suitable price for it and listed for sale, but i am surprised that two weeks in i havent had even one call about it. Ive reduced the price by a few hundred last week but still nothing.

I didnt expect it to be this quiet though, i thought the GTI was a rare but quite desirable little hatch so thought i would have some interest..... hmmmm

It breaks my heart to see if sat on the driveway each night coming home, with it not being used

Next attack is to put it out by the main road with a sign in it.

Anyone else had probs shifting their GTI recently?

I think lots of people have gone with the 6R as well with that DSG rubbish. :p

I don't think it's worthwhile to state in the ad the duration in which you've owned it. It's irrelevant and may turn postential buyers away, even if you do have a legitimate reason to sell.

    Good luck though!

Yep, I reckon price is the issue.

Our polo's are now a generation old, so everyone will want a new one unless it's really cheap. Looks like low km private sale 2007 GTI's are starting in the 16's on Carsales. Similar dealer cars are in the 19's (including stamp duty and statutory warranty).

Yeah... I sold mine in December. Black too.

It was a 2008 MY08 with only 35,000km. It had about a year of new car warranty left. It had the APR Stage 1 ECU, darkest legal tint and I'd spend $600 on a thorough paint detailing prior to photographing it to put it on car sales. Apart from a few stone chips, this thing looked better than any new car I've ever seen. Also, legitimately no marks on any wheels or the interior or trim. One VW dealer refused to offer a trade in because he still had a new one he said he wouldn't be able to move if my car was on the lot, another VW dealer told me he could take it, but he didn't want to insult me with the price he could offer...

So when I started, I put it up for $21,990 - surprisingly the CHEAPEST 08 price there. Since even from the photos, my car was clearly superior than the others, prices started to shift down quite a bit over a few weeks. It came down to $19,960, still the cheapest of the 08's.

After another few weeks, just before Christmas, I listed it on these forums only for $18,960.
I then sold it for a price negotiated from there to a non-regular member from these forums.

I was happy with the price that I got, because it was the exact figure I said I'd be happy to receive before I purchased the car two years earlier! I only listed it as high as I did initially, because all the other people were dreaming, and I didn't want to look too far out of place.

But in the end, it doesn't matter how many people are listed for higher than you, the market will only pay what they will pay...

Looking at your pics, it's obvious that you have a few from now (which are dark and low quality), and a few from when you bought it at the sales yard. I would suggest giving the car a wash and detail and taking a single set of nice exterior and interior pics now, and replacing all your existing shots.

I would also suggest adjusting your price suitably. I know no one wants to hear that... but maybe if you listed it for say $17,900 you would get some more interest. I figure this is a good listing price based on 4 Polo GTI's currently listed private in QLD, including the white 07 with 49k on it and a sunroof for $18350.

There's also plenty of people on here who would be keen to go take car pics one day if aren't confident of your photo skills or camera quality. Give it a scrub and some tire shine and go before sunset when the sun is low but not gone.

Yeah, prices really have taken a hit since the 6R... especially for cars without leather.

I thought I was super lucky to get $17.5k for my '06 with leather/sunroof and 60k on the clock when I sold it ~8 months ago.

The market moves in strange ways... I don't think they will depreciate too much faster, its still a new euro with power (or power capability). If mine was only worth 15 as is in a year, I'd want it to go to someone who thought it was as awesome as I do...
