They'll be going for $12-$15k in a year or so.

The used car market is only slightly better than the used CRT TV market.

And like it or not (i like it) the Pog ain't exactly mainstream. Fringe cars never do well on the used car market.

I'm just glad I didn't go for a Ralliart Colt - i thought they woul die on the used car market - you should see what they are selling them for!

yeah, we'll (polo owners) ride on the success of the rest of the VW range. I've just decided to do some mods to mine and ensure that the next few years of motoring are fun. We all know cars depreciate, might as well ensure that cost is absorbed with smiles in the meantime.

If you buy a car hoping to come out around break-even or at least not too far behind at the end of it. Well, live and learn....Buy it for the fun and hang onto it!

I know exactly how you feel. I went around to dealerships outta interest and was disgusted to see what they offered as trade in. I'm about to put my WRX on the private market at the start of june as soon as it's sold im getting into a Polo again.

Agree. Unless you've got money to mess with, hold on for 5 years at least and enjoy. If you keep changing, well you're going to be down heaps!

Yeah, I just recently sold mine to a forum member and i 've had plenty work done and my pog was on one of the most unique and fully loaded here in Melbourne. Even then, I had to reduce the price in order to gain interest and eventually sold it to a friend and forum member here for $18k. Listed it on carsales for 19k and all I got was a few stupid car swap offers, several scams (I suspect from the same person/group just using a different name each time), and one guy who didn't have any appreciation for the mods I've had done and would rather pay the same as my asking price for a slightly newer one without the leather, dvd system, mods and sunroof who also justified his reasoning by saying he doesn't like silver on a car and prefers the plain red one (no offence to those who have a red one here just making a point). Basically the guy just wanted some advice in modding the pog and wasn't in the slightest interested in considering buying mine. Anyway, at least its now in good hands and i get to see it from time to time. But after the experience of a private sale, I don't think I really want to do that again. From time of first interest and offer to actual handing over of the vehicle to the new owner, it took a tad over a month. So patience is definately what is required int he private sale game. If easy resale and trade in is what floats your boat when deciding what car to buy, then go and buy a camry or corolla or something mainstream like that, otherwise unless you happen to be very lucky at the time of sale, its not going be as simple as you hope at the price you originally desired. Oh an on top of all that, in order to get a roadworthy on it, I was lucky the car was right on the limit in terms of ride height. Had both the FMIC and BMC airbox on it too so had to replace the BMC with the factory airbox for compliance. Basically had to put the car back to as stock as possible in order to pass roadworthy. So overall, quite a hassle and anxiety provoking job so next cars aren't going to be as modded to the point of concern for roadworthies and issues with the authorities if a random "please pop the bonnet" event occurs. You can say I'm a chicken or getting old but I'm learning from my mistakes. I've had my fun and can still have fun whilst staying within legal limits. At the end of the day, at least I can say I've been there and done that. That's my 2 cents worth. Hope my experience helps.

P.S. Good luck on the sale. Hope things run smoothly for you.

That's been my way with the Pogo so far, changes I've made are either cosmetic or only going to be really noticed by someone who really knows what they are looking for ie. Forum members Went through all the hassle of cops checking under the bonnet, noise and height issues with my old Swift GTi, it really isn't much fun after a while

thanks for the insight Dave, appreciate it. Im leaving the ad on carsales (as i paid for it until it sells) but am not actively selling it for the minute now as a change of job has just come up and i need to sort out what im doing. once im settled into new job i will drop the price on it to move it on.

I hadnt used it in 3 weeks until Monday when i took it to work as needed to meet someone and it reminded me why i love the car so much, but also reminded me that it takes me twice as long to get to and from work on the roads compared to train. sigh.

    I had the same issues.
I priced it according to redbook value, but only got a couple of casual inquiries. I had to drop the prices by thousands before I started getting any interest. In the end, a friend ended up buying it.
I sold it for less than redbook, which wasn't good, but it took me a whole month to do it.
Just happy its gone to someone who will look after it, instead of a trade-in to the dealers where they'll just make more money off of it.

A month to sell a car is really not long at all. I would hope to be rid of a car within a month, but reality would suggest it could take a few months.
